Amidst relentless promotions, Sudipto Sen, the director of ‘The Kerala Story’, has been actively promoting his film. Despite facing bans and protests, the movie has surpassed the impressive milestone of crossing the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office. However, the demanding nature of excessive travel and promotional activities has taken a toll on the filmmaker’s health. Consequently, Sudipto Sen has been hospitalized, prompting the postponement of his scheduled campaign programs in other cities.

According to reports, once Sudipto Sen recovers, he intends to resume promoting ‘The Kerala Story’ in 10 different cities. The filmmaker’s continuous travel alongside the team for promotional activities has led to his illness, thereby necessitating a pause in the campaign plan and city tour. The film, released on 5th May, portrays the story of three girls from Kerala who fall victim to brainwashing and conversion by ISIS. Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idwani, the performances of the actors in the movie have garnered appreciation from the audience.

Addressing the ban on the film in West Bengal, Sudipto Sen expressed to ANI, “There has not been a single untoward incident in the state because of the film. The decision to ban the film is politically motivated. I request them to watch the film and then take a decision. I am not a politician; I am a filmmaker. I can only make a film, and it is up to the audience to decide whether they want to watch it or not. For the first four days after the film’s release in Kolkata, there were no issues. Suddenly, Didi felt there could be law and order problems. Mahua Moitra and Mamata Banerjee are champions of free speech and human rights.”

Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Shah, ‘The Kerala Story’ encountered protests even prior to its release. In addition, the film was subjected to bans in Tamil Nadu and by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. However, the ban on the film in West Bengal has now been lifted, allowing it to be screened in the state. Despite the initial challenges, the movie has been performing remarkably well, emerging as a blockbuster at the box office. It has amassed an impressive business of Rs 216.07 crore in India to date.
